Home Run Derby Supports YMCA of Milwaukee

Author: Steve James

Today we had the opportunity to attend the 2nd annual “AirTran Airways Big Fly Derby” hosted by Ryan Braun.  The home run hitting contest was for Milwaukee media to benefit the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee. The two-round slow-pitch softball derby was held at Helfaer Field right next to Miller Park today with Milwaukee Brewers announcer Davey Nelson pitching.

AirTran Airways donated $10,000 to the YMCA to celebrate the event which is the second event this year that AirTran has supported the YMCA summer camp programs and included the Milwaukee Brewers. Kids from YMCA’s Summer Day Camp were present to accept the check and in the outfield to help catch balls that didn't make it over the fence.

Greg Matzek of 620 WTMJ won the Derby for the second year in a row.
