Great SEO Refresher

Author: Jeff Coon

Just reviewed an excellent video from Rand Fishkin of SEOmoz.org – part ofInbound Marketing University. I now remember why we keep these webinars close at hand – great stuff! You can find all 13 videos here:http://inboundmarketing.com/university/imu-kit

Some of the takeaways from this video are listed below. I highly recommend taking an hour to watch the full webinar as this recap won’t do it justice. But for those who just want to skim a few of the highlights (being that it’s Friday) here you go:

(Some of these aren’t a huge surprise but others are worth investigating further)

  • Unique content is very important (no brainer)
  • W3C Validation isn’t that important – but it’s good form to validate your pages
  • Code to Text Ratio is not very imporant
  • Static URLs are somewhat better than dynamic URLs
  • Keyword in the URL is very important (and makes sense)
  • Keywords in the title that are closer to the beginning of the sentence do better than those later in the title
  • ALT Text plays a bigger role than you might think
  • Subdomains likely don’t inherit all of the ranking benefits of the root domain

Again, take some time to watch the video as he does a great job explaining some more advanced SEO tactics and the Q&A section at the end is a good refresher.
