Illustration, Social Media and Controversy Creates Army of Supporters

Author: Steve James

I'm with Coco. I'm sure you've heard it or have seen it somewhere in the past few months. In case you haven't, it is the icon/logo/driving force of the Conan O'Brien support movement (http://www.facebook.com/imwithcoco).

The illustration and concept are superb, but the amazing thing about this is the way that designer Mike Mitchell utilized social media to create an army of passionate supporters.

Before the poster/logo was released there was already a lot of chatter regarding the late night debacle. Most of which were in support of O'Brien. Someone just needed to light the proverbial wick.

Once "I'm with Coco" was released to the web it blew up and has not slowed down.

Not only did it become the face of the orange movement, but it became a forum for the Conan supporters to post their support, share opinions and spread the word. The Facebook page quickly gained thousands of fans/supporters by strictly using web-roots marketing.

The Facebook site helped launch and organize "I'm with Coco" rallies in multiple states creating incredible media attention for both O'Brien and Mitchell. Unfortunately Conan didn't regain his late night spot, but it did get the point across. Down with Leno.

Not too shabby for an illustration supporting the lanky Irishman.

Also, the "I'm with Coco" poster is being used for O'Brien's "The Legally Prohibited From Being Funny On Television Tour."(http://teamcoco.com/)
